📌 Project Overview
Mobile App Siswa – Remote Block Anti-Cheating is a mobile application designed to support the secure and controlled administration of online exams. This app specifically targets students and aims to prevent cheating attempts by detecting when students try to switch to other apps, such as browsers, during an exam. By implementing a "Remote Block" feature, the app immediately alerts the student and can temporarily block the account if repeated violations are detected. The project focuses on delivering an educational, non-intimidating yet effective user experience, available on both Android and iOS platforms.
🎯 Background
With the rapid shift toward remote learning, online exams have become a common practice in schools. However, this shift has also increased the risk of digital cheating, where students can easily open other apps to find answers during exams. Traditional supervision methods are no longer effective in digital environments. There is a growing need for a secure digital solution that can prevent cheating without disrupting the students' focus during assessments.
❗ Problem Statement
How might we build a mobile-based exam platform that effectively prevents students from cheating by switching to other applications—while still ensuring a user experience that is non-restrictive, educational, and stress-free?
🥅 Project Objectives
The main goal of this project is to design and develop a mobile app that enables students to take exams in a secure and monitored environment. The app should be able to detect when students switch apps during the exam and respond with real-time warnings. If violations occur multiple times, the system should temporarily block the student’s account to prevent further abuse. The solution aims to promote fair and transparent digital assessments while helping teachers monitor exams more easily.
📏 Success Metrics
The success of the project is measured by the following key performance indicators:
The app must operate stably during exam sessions, with a 100% uptime and no crashes.
The Remote Block feature should detect and respond to over 90% of app-switching attempts.
There should be at least a 70% reduction in reported cheating incidents within the first month of implementation.
The app should receive a satisfaction rating of 4.5 out of 5 from students and teachers after its first deployment.
💡 Proposed Solution
The proposed solution is a mobile app that locks the student within the exam interface using fullscreen secure mode, preventing access to other apps. If the student attempts to leave the app, a warning pop-up will appear informing them of a potential violation. After a certain threshold (e.g., 3 violations), the system will temporarily block their account. All actions during the exam are logged and accessible to teachers for review. This approach combines real-time monitoring with educational feedback to reduce misconduct while maintaining trust.
🔍 Impact & Outcome
The anti-cheating system successfully prevented over 90% of attempts to exit the app during the exam.
Teachers felt more confident conducting online exams with the added layer of digital supervision.
Students felt more guided and less intimidated thanks to the educational, non-threatening warning system.
📚 Lessons Learned
A strict approach (e.g., immediate account blocking) caused stress among students — a more balanced system with initial warnings proved to be more effective.
Some older devices were incompatible with the background detection system — requiring the development of a fallback mode.
Close collaboration with teachers was essential to define realistic and fair system rules.
UX microcopy played a crucial role in influencing student behavior (e.g., “You’ve exited the app. Please return before time runs out.
